The debut effort from Ontario indie-bluegrass-folk band The Strumbellas is one of the finest records that I have come across so far this year. Blending their traditionally-rooted instruments such as the banjo, violin and the mandolin with gorgeous harmonies and gang vocals, there is an uplifting yet melancholic feeling that runs throughout My Father and The Hunter. While The Strumbellas are bound to find an audience for their music throughout the country and beyond, I could see them resonating rather well with audiences here in Atlantic Canada. The Strumbellas will be a band to keep your ears open for once this record drops this coming Tuesday.
