The sound of the debut effort from the Lumineers is not an easy one to peg. While the group resides comfortably in the folk-pop vein, their sound is more folk-specific than anything else. Specifically, some of the group’s songs sound as though they could have been a part of the catalogue of Pete Seeger or Woody Guthrie. While their songwriting chops might not be on the level of Seeger or Guthrie yet, this is probably the best reference point for the curious to start from. This is a fun, at times quirky record that is worth hearing for yourself.
