The third and final title in The Jayhawks recent reissues campaign, 2003’s Rainy Day Music saw the band essentially come full circle. After having pursued a distinctly more pop sound on their excellent 2000 release Smile, The Jayhawks retreated to the familiar roots/folk/alt.country territory that they had built their name on, best exemplified on “Stumbling Through The Dark” and “Save It For A Rainy Day.” A collection of previously unreleased demo tracks is included in the bonus material, as is a live version of their song “In The Canyon.” Rainy Day Music proved a fitting closure to an underrated era of one of America’s best bands.
