The highly anticipated follow-up to 2008’s acclaimed The ’59 Sound sees New Jersey’s Gaslight Anthem toning down the punk-ish rhetoric found on their previous record. Not to say that any of these songs are any less powerful than their predecessors but the group seems to have found a groove they are comfortable with. More importantly, it is a groove that works well as the band pays earnest homage to the heartland-rock of Bruce Springsteen over these ten tracks. Although it might be a little more mid-tempo in nature than what fans are accustomed to, The Gaslight Anthem have successfully delivered the goods with this, their third album.
