Let’s face it – Sting is a bit of a pompous ass, albeit a very successful one. So what happens when he matches up classic Police tracks like Next To You, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and more with a symphony? Surprisingly good things, at least in some cases. Next To You manages to maintain the frantic feel of the original while his cover of I Hung My Head is elegant yet restrained. On the other hand, the symphonic version of Roxanne is just awful, coming off sounding like a lounge act gone awry at the best moments, which isn’t saying much considering how great the original is.
