It is somewhat telling that after 20 years of being together, Sloan prove they are as relevant today as they have ever been at any point in the career. Their newest record (their tenth overall) continues the band’s penchant for rock skewed pop songs but here, the band has delivered what might very well be their strongest and most consistent album of the past decade. This isn’t intended as a slight against any of their previous work but it is clear that the group has tapped into something very special this time around. Whether you listen to album opener Follow The Leader, Unkind, Traces, The Answer Was You or a softer moment like Green Gardens Cold Montreal, Sloan have never sounded more vital. Here’s to another 20 years, guys.
