Depending on with whom you speak with, the 80’s were either the worst or the best time when it came to music. Go For The Heart, a five-song EP from Toronto group Trapper, compellingly celebrates the better musical aspects of the decade, evoking a slick hard-rock sound that fondly harkens back to Def Leppard’s heyday. Led by dynamic vocalist Emm Gryner and guitarist extraordinaire Sean Kelly, whose credits include playing with Helix and former Guns N Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke in addition to fronting the glam-inspired Crash Kelly, the duo undoubtedly brings the fun aspects of the 80’s to Go For The Heart, including covers of The Outfield’s hit “Your Love” and “The Warrior” by Scandal. The EP’s three original tracks – “Technology Killed Our Love,” “Grand Bender” and “Lonely Hearts” – certainly stand on their own merits, like a 21st Century love letter to the rock spirit of the 80’s.
