At first glance, it becomes quickly evident that the debut solo effort from New Brunswick native Tommy Green Jr. is a slick affair, and by no means is that a negative thing. The album is polished but not rigid, led by Green’s pop disposition that is not afraid of being funky, smooth, jazzy or reflective when the song calls for such treatment. Regardless of the styles he chooses to incorporate, however, Green’s album is a pop record at its core, filled with a myriad of instrumentation and rounded out by memorable choruses that will be stick in your head long after the last note has played. Highlights include “It’s My Turn Now,” the sombre ballad “I Blame Toronto,” “Roses,” and opening track “Illuminosity.”
