Over the last number of years, with Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Charles Bradley and Leon Bridges leading a resurgence in soul music, everything old is new again, which is excellent news for the wonderful James Hunter Six and their latest offering, Hold On. Drawing inspiration from greats like Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson, dynamic vocalist James Hunter leads the group through a collection of beautiful mid-tempo numbers (“Something’s Calling,” “Light Of My Life,” and “This Is Where We Came In”) as well as some irresistible, upbeat tracks (instrumental track “Satchelfoot,” “(Baby) Hold On,” and “If That Don’t Tell You”) that will have your toes tapping along in no time.
