Pete Yorn is a songwriter that has, for better or worse, remained under the mainstream radar for the bulk of the last 15 years. With Arranging Things, his seventh full-length effort, Yorn has settled into a middle of the road approach to songwriting, which is a good and not-so-good thing. On the plus side: Yorn certainly knows his way around a song; there is a scrappy yet warm feeling that runs throughout the duration of the record. On the not-so-good side of the coin, I found that the record lacks the highs and lows and signs of brilliance that have shone through on previous efforts. I’m confident Yorn can deliver a record that is going to blow me away; Arranging Things just isn’t that record. Recommended tracks: “Summer Was A Day,” and “I’m Not The One.”
