An influential musical figure upon the likes of Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett and more, the catalogue of Townes Van Zandt is held in high regard and with good reason. While commercial success may have eschewed him, the songs on this, Van Zandt’s sixth record, show a mature, honest and simple approach to songwriting. Blurring genre lines of blues, country and folk, the world is definitely a lesser place for having lost Van Zandt, a true original that was taken too soon. At the very least, he lives on through his incomparable songs.
