In my opinion, The Mavericks have never truly received their due credit. Sure, they’ve had a handful of hits but rather than rewarding the group’s fusion of latino rhythms with country, tex mex and more, the country music establishment has instead made stars of lowest common denominator country artists like Kenny Chesney. Upbeat, joyful and as musically diverse as any of their other albums, The Mavericks will sadly and most likely remain a cult favourite with In Time. To think that their originality forces them to play second fiddle to anyone else is, to quote the band, a crying shame.
