Review of The Devil Makes Three – I’m A Stranger Here (New West)

The Devil Makes Three

Before not having a drummer was considered cool by the masses (I’m pinning blame on you, Lumineers), there was The Devil Makes Three. And while the trio does employ some percussion in some of the songs on their sixth full-length effort, the sound of the band is very much etched in the earliest days of the country-folk movement. Spinning Like A Top and Hallelu are two of the best songs that Hank Williams Sr. never recorded while the gospel-tinged album closer Goodbye Old Friend boasts a poignancy that is both genuine and powerful.
