Whether it is the intense scrutiny of following up such a big record that got to the band or if other forces are at work, the current status of The Civil Wars is up in the air. A true shame considering that their self-titled sophomore record shows much of the same promise that their Grammy Award winning debut Barton Hollow held. The most notable difference to be found here is that the group’s ambition for roots-folk-rock has been large-sized, driven by passionate tracks like I Had Me A Girl, Eavesdrop and Devil’s Backbone.
