I’ve easily been able to take or leave the last few records from Steve Earle. While each of his last few records had a few brilliant moments, I felt as though he had perhaps reached his creative peak. Then he puts out a record like The Low Highway to prove me completely wrong. The album is arguably his best since 2000’s Transcendental Blues, chalk full of a mix of rockers (Calico County), bluegrass numbers (Love’s Gonna Blow My Way) and sentimental, reflective songs (Burnin’ It Down). The Low Highway is a great return to form for Steve Earle.
