For as long as they have been making music, Halifax natives Sloan has been comprised of four distinct songwriters, each of whom brings a unique voice to their albums as a whole. Their 11th studio record, Commonwealth (released this past Tuesday) is a first for the band in the respect that it gives each member an album “side” rather than their tracks intermingling with one another. Although the presentation might be unique this time around, the sound remains quintessential Sloan where guitar-driven pop and rock co-exist in glorious harmony. Among the highlights from this 15-track collection are “You’ve Got A Lot On Your Mind,” “Cleopatra”, “Carried Away” and the multi-dimensional “Forty-Eight Portraits.”
