Review of Sam Smith – In The Lonely Hour (Capitol / Universal Music Canada)

Sam SmithAn artist with an incredibly powerful voice and can write his own songs? Sign me up! In all seriousness though, the U.K.’s Sam Smith has one hell of a voice. He has obviously been reared on some great R&B vocalists but it is on slower tracks like “I’ve Told You Now,” “Leave Your Lover” and “Stay With Me” where Smith’s strengths shine through, giving the listener the biggest return. Although I could have taken or left tempo-oriented dance tracks like album opener “Money On My Mind” and “Restart,” In The Lonely Hour is an outstanding debut effort.
