In the almost ten years since their last studio record, the trio of members that comprise Nickel Creek (Sara Watkins, Sean Watkins and Chris Thile) went onto other ventures including solo projects and the formation of acclaimed band Punch Brothers. With minimal instrumentation through the majority of the album, A Dotted Line finds the group in fine form, delivering a modern take on bluegrass music that remains largely rooted in the genre’s traditions. Especially notable are the trio’s vocal harmonies on the sprightly track Destinations, their ambitious cover of Mother Mother’s song Hayloft and You Don’t Know What’s Going On.
