In the same way that their former label mates Scud Mountain Boys could evoke such joyous misery from their music, Low marry beautiful melodies and minimal musical accompaniment with bittersweet, sad lyrics. Produced by Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy, echoes of sadness reverberate throughout every one of the tracks on The Invisible Way. While there are glimmers of hope to be heard such as on So Blue, it is the group’s melancholic, sparse moments heard on Amethyst and Waiting which end up creating the lasting effect upon the listener.
