After last year’s relatively subdued but still excellent Radiant Land, the ridiculously prolific Leeroy Stagger returns with an album inspired by the Occupy movements of last year. Accordingly, Stagger (with the help of producer Steve Berlin) owes more to The Stooges than Steve Earle with this new collection of songs. While the roots-rock tag isn’t entirely inaccurate (especially on Break My Heart), there is a defiant tone to be heard on songs like Goodnight Berlin, Have A Heart and Cities On Fire that gives the record an edge of urgency. Truth Be Sold is a solid addition to the catalogue of one of Canada’s most-underrated songwriters.
