Review Of Heethcliff – Hunter’s Home (Independent)

HeethcliffMoncton’s Heethcliff have been kicking around town for the last couple of years. Released late last month, their debut EP Hunter’s Home basks in a diverse range of influences that manages to surprise at every turn. Opening with “Last Minute,” a track highlighted by almost equal amounts of horns and crunchy guitars, the group then moves into pseudo-reggae territory with “Lewisville Jig”. But it is on the expansive “Calisse” where the group most effectively brings their influences together: The track is a slice of Tom Waits-inspired weirdness punctuated by horns, tempo changes and a menacing outro that proclaims “We don’t know any other way…”
