Greg MacPherson is, hands down, one of Canada’s most under-rated songwriters. With his ninth full-length record, Fireball, MacPherson sounds as though he is playing for his life. The sinister vibe heard on Sandhand is nicely complemented by the no holds barred attack of 1995, Motel Hotel and the Clash-influenced Goes Like This. The song arrangements are simple but ultimately, the album truly benefits from keeping the bells and whistles at bay. The songs on Fireball exude a raw, authentic passion that only a seasoned vet like MacPherson could deliver upon with such stellar results.
