Review of Arkells – High Noon (Universal Music Canada)

ArkellsOne of the best Canadian bands going these days, Arkells crank out insanely catchy pop music with a rock edge. And while this tradition remains firmly in tact on their third full-length album High Noon, some of the songs featured here reflect a social and political awareness that wasn’t quite as omnipresent on previous efforts. There is a certain intensity that bookends the record (“Systematic” and “Fake Money”) which is in turn offset by more direct pop leanings like “Come To Light,” “Dirty Blonde” and “11:11”. High Noon brims with a confidence typically reserved for acts more than three albums deep in their career.
