At the start of July 1970, a little more than two months before Jimi Hendrix would prematurely pass away, the legendary guitarist, bassist Billy Cox and drummer Mitch Mitchell descended upon the Atlanta International Pop Festival and delivered a scorching set, captured here on 16 tracks spanning two CDs. The collection boasts some of Hendrix’s best-known tracks including “Fire,” “Hey Joe,” “All Along The Watchtower,” “Voodoo Child,” and “Purple Haze” along with lesser-known but equally great songs like “Room Full of Mirrors” and “Freedom.” The trio’s performance is loose but remains coherent throughout, giving a fascinating look back upon one of rock’s greatest guitarists.
