Jackson Browne has been one of the finest, if not one of the most undervalued songwriters in the 42 years since his debut record. He has a certain way of putting words to music that, while not a complicated process for some, holds firm to his socio-political stances without compromising the integrity of the end product. Both “You Know The Night” and “Leaving Winslow” boast a roots-inspired shuffle while on “The Long Way Around,” Browne sings “It’s never been that hard to buy a gun / Now they’ll sell a glock 19 to just about anyone…” betraying the track’s gentle instrumentation. It is that dichotomy that Browne seemingly taps into with such ease that demonstrates his continued relevance in music today.
