Review: Hey Rosetta! – Second Sight (Warner Music Canada)

Hey RosettaFor a while, it seemed as though Newfoundland’s Hey Rosetta would be the Canadian indie-rock heirs to Arcade Fire. But while the group might not yet have achieved a parallel level of success, the quality of the music they are making is certainly not to blame. Their latest full-length record boasts a kind of grandeur that, instead of packing an immediate punch, relies upon subtlety and a skilled use of dynamics to keep the listener tuned in. Second Sight kicks off with a trio of uplifting tracks (“Soft Offering,” “Gold Teeth” and “Dream”) before “What Arrows,” “Cathedral Bells” and “Kid Gloves” each demonstrate the group’s meticulous focus on ensure they get to the heart of their songs.
