At the start of 2014, approximately nine months before The Allman Brothers brought their remarkable 45-year career to a close, Gregg Allman, backed by his eight-piece band, headed down to Macon, Georgia to capture this gem of a performance. Available in multiple formats, including DVD and a 2-CD set, Allman and his band energetically take on fan favourites including “Statesboro Blues,” “Whipping Post,” “Melissa,” “Midnight Rider,” and “Hot ‘Lanta” as well as notable solo tracks such as “I’m No Angel,” and “Before The Bullets Fly.” While the audio of the concert is spectacular, the DVD of the performance is the way to go, in my opinion. Recorded in front of an intimate audience of approximately 1,000 people in Macon, Allman’s performance is interspersed with interviews, and also serves as a homecoming of sorts for the musician, considering it is the town where the Allmans were given their start in the 60’s.
