Elvis Costello has worn many hats throughout his career, some better than others. With this DVD, he has brought his songs back to basics, relying solely upon guitar, piano and ukulele, delivering a wonderful 22-song set that runs the gamut of some of his earliest songs (“Alison,” “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes”) through later era material like “45” and “When I Was Cruel No. 2” along with covers of “If I Had A Hammer,” among others. What is perhaps most endearing about the collection, aside from the mid-set addition of folk duo Larkin Poe, is Costello sharing the story behind some of his songs, including a particularly great tale that inspired “Accidents Will Happen.”
