Review: Earthbound Trio – Ditch Flowers (Independent)

Earthbound TrioWith their sophomore release, St. Andrews’s favourite sons the Earthbound Trio took the potential displayed on 2013’s Lettuce Turnip The Beet and amped it up in virtual limitless amounts. Blending elements of funk, folk and rock, Ditch Flowers sees the band exploring some darker lyrical themes in comparison to their debut, especially on the politically motivated “Big Man” and “Miner’s Song.” Musically however, the trio sounds simultaneously peppy and relaxed, rounding out their catchy acoustic guitar driven melodies with a rock solid rhythm section letting the optimism flowing free on many other songs, including opening track “Let It Go,” and “Plant A Seed.”
