After the winter we’ve lived through here in Atlantic Canada, virtually everyone should welcome listening to an album that takes us to a sunny place in our minds. With Garage City, Toronto’s C&C Surf Factory (Blue Rodeo’s Colin Cripps and New Country Rehab’s Champagne James Robertson) unleash a tidal wave of surf-inspired tracks that are heavy on reverb with nary a vocal line to be found throughout the record. Keeping a listener’s attention with an instrumental album can be a tough challenge for even the most seasoned vets, but it seems second-hand nature for Cripps and Robertson who leverage their extensive history in music well, letting the music lead the way on the edgy and exciting “Fire On The Dance Floor” and “Cobra Basket” as well as the dazzling “Phasors On Stun.”
