Has it really been 20 years since Alanis Morissette became a global phenomenon with Jagged Little Pill? Indeed it has been. For those of us Cauncks who knew Alanis as a pop artist, her musical transformation into the seething, jilted lover heard on the album’s first single (“You Oughta Know”) was stupefying, but with subsequent singles like “Ironic,” “Hand In My Pocket,” and “Head Over Feet,” Morissette showed a depth to her songwriting that was impressively bold. This two-disc reissue, released to commemorate the record’s 20th anniversary, includes the original album paired with a bonus disc of 10 demos, all of which are previously unreleased. Although she may never reach the lofty commercial heights she did with Jagged Little Pill, Morissette can take comfort knowing she created a virtually timeless masterpiece.
