At first glance I wouldn’t blame you if you thought that Queen’s Absolute Greatest is just another differently-named hits package that simply rehashes Queen’s hits in a different running order.
While that is indeed the case on the surface, it is hard to deny the power of hard-hitting songs like Seven Seas Of Rhye and One Vision, sitting comfortably alongside Queen’s 1980s output like Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Radio Ga Ga. Where would sports arenas all over the world be without unofficial anthems like We Are The Champions and We Will Rock You? There is a reason that Queen’s songs continue to be played well into the 21st century and many of them are included on this 20-track set.
Although the collection isn’t quite as comprehensive as I might have liked to have seen (Tie Your Mother Down and Fat-Bottomed Girls are missing in action), it is the ideal collection for those wanting some of Queen’s essential songs in their library.
