Pete Yorn – S/T (Vagrant / Universal Music Canada)

Thank God Pete Yorn hasn’t forgotten how to write a decent rock song. I was seriously concerned about his ability after hearing last year’s dismal Back and Forth but on this, his fifth solo album, he has definitely got his groove back. From the opening notes of Precious Stone through Velcro Shoes and Paradise Cove I, Yorn unearths a rock n roll energy that he had perhaps unintentionally stashed away for reasons unknown. Perhaps producer Black Francis (The Pixies) is to credit for Yorn’s electric guitar resurgence. Either way, I am digging it.
