Joe Pernice is one of the most versatile songwriters in music today. And though the Pernice Brothers lineup has changed multiple times over the past decade, it has done nothing to alter the vision that Pernice holds for the group. With backing from long time Matthew Sweet drummer Ric Menck, Pernice beautifully sways between Byrds-esque country on We Love The Stage through more restless moments as heard on Bechamel and Jacqueline Susann. My only complaint is that ten songs aren’t nearly enough to tide me over until the next Pernice Brothers release. Goodbye, Killer is another solid notch in the belt of one of America’s most underappreciated songwriters.
