Rather than betting on a sure thing and releasing another album of 80’s influenced power pop, OK Go follow their own musical whims on this, their third record. Teaming up with Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann, this collection of songs has more in common with musical chameleons like Prince and Beck than anyone from the pop domain.
But rather than coming across as a hack job done by amateurs, the group is seemingly well versed at travelling these different musical paths. Although they don’t quite reach the same level of infectious melodies that their previous work has, their new musical direction works great on songs like White Knuckles, WTF? and first single This Too Shall Pass.
