Neil Young has been nothing if not prolific with his studio output over the course of the last decade. Psychedelic Pill is his second album with longtime collaborators Crazy Horse this year alone, a sprawling two-disc set that includes three songs that run over the 15-minute mark. Are such indulgences necessary for Young at this point in his career? Probably not, however Young has ever been one to play by anyone else’s rules. Young and Crazy Horse return to full-blown guitar-based rock n roll with flying colours.
