Merle Haggard – Working In Tennessee (Vanguard / EMI Music Canada)

There is a lot of piss left in country music outlaw Merle Haggard yet. His newest record Working In Tennessee features a generous helping of the outlaw country music that he helped pioneer so many years ago. At 74-years old, Haggard’s voice has stood the test of time rather well, sounding vital on songs like the title track , Working Man Blues, Cocaine Blues and Sometimes I Dream. Listening to Haggard ruminate about the state of modern country music on Too Much Boogie Woogie is both sad and telling considering there is no chance in hell that country radio would dare play Haggard anymore.
