Perhaps one of the finest songwriters in Canada at the present time, Ontario’s Matthew de Zoete produces one of the best singer-songwriter albums I have heard so far this year. On this, his third full-length effort, de Zoete branches out from his largely acoustic past. While you can still hear the influence of Nick Drake in his songs, de Zoete also recalls Beck (think Sea Change, not Mellow Gold) throughout these 11 songs. The pop sensibilities contained in these songs will surely propel de Zoete to greater heights before long.
