There’s a purity to be found on the latest record from Matthew Barber that takes other songwriters a career to achieve. Barber is one of Canada’s most underrated songwriters having churned out a handful of better-than-average records prior to this self-titled effort. On Let Me Go Home and Ring Upon Your Finger, Barber recalls Jackson Browne while Bob Dylan is the influence on Dust On My Collar and Middle Of A Dream. There’s a romanticism to these songs that might be easily replicated by others, but when push comes to shove, you can’t feign emotion and Barber works that to his advantage.
