It’s been a long five years since Marty Stuart’s last studio record but within the first three songs of Ghost Train, the listener is immediately grateful for the fact he values quality over quantity. Stuart continues holding the flame of classic country high on this set of 14 tracks, crafting upbeat honky-tonkin’ good times on Branded and Ghost Train Four-Oh-Ten. The second half of the record leans rather heavily on ballads with tracks like I Run To You and Porter Wagoner’s Grave before wrapping up with the amazing 90-second mandolin solo that is Mississippi Railroad Blues.
