On his newest record, singer-songwriter Marc Cohn tackles songs from the year of 1970, a time when Cohn would have been an impressionable teen discovering artists like those included on Listening Booth: 1970. Cohn’s version of Paul McCartney’s Maybe I’m Amazed is relatively tame compared to the original, as are his interpretations of Badfinger’s No Matter What and The Box Tops’ track The Letter. The track selection is great but it is obvious that Cohn wasn’t taking any risks in reinterpreting these songs that end up sounding a little more dramatic than celebratory.
