I might be running off the high of having recently spoken to Lyle Lovett but holy crap people, get your asses out to see him when he plays in your neck of the woods. Why? ‘Cause he is one of the finest songwriters to ever come from Texas.
Ironically enough, the first record of Lyle’s that I heard was Step Inside This House, a double-disc collection of music where he pays tribute to some of his favourite Texan singer-songwriters. It is because of Lyle and that collection that I discovered the likes of Walter Hyatt, Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark.
But as I went back and poured through Lyle’s catalogue of original music, I was blown away how he could wear so many different musical hats (big band, country, pop…) and pull it all off so well.
I will have a full interview / feature with Lyle posted on Tuesday.
Here are Lyle’s upcoming Canadian Tour Dates (although he is playing many more):
July 2 – Dartmouth, NS – Dartmouth Sports Plex – Presented by Sonic Concerts
July 3 – Moncton, NB – Casino New Brunswick – Presented by Sonic Concerts
July 4 – Montreal, PQ – Festival International du Jazz
And lastly, here is Lyle Lovett’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert for your enjoyment.
