Although Los Lobos might have experienced their commercial peak with 1987’s La Bamba Soundtrack, it is records like 1992’s phenomenal Kiko that show the group had more tricks up their sleeves than what people might have thought. Gone was the relative straightforward approach of their previous records. In its place, an ambitious and almost experimental journey into helping destroy any pre-conceived notions regarding exactly what the group was capable of. With Kiko, Los Lobos found the ultimate balance between paying homage to their heritage while embracing new sounds.
