Levon Helm, best known as the drummer of The Band and the voice behind legendary tracks such as The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and plenty of others, has been rather prolific over the past five years. But over the past decade, Helm has also become rather well known for his “rambles”, shows that feature him performing alongside a bevy of invited guest artists; Sheryl Crow, Buddy Miller and John Hiatt are among the most notable guests stopping by to ramble with Levon on this 2008 show. The 15 tracks contained on Ramble At The Ryman are a mixed bag of Band songs (Rag Mama Rag, Chest Fever, The Shape I’m In and Ophelia) along with tracks taken from Helm’s solo work (A Train Robbery, Anna Lee). At 71 years young, Helm has never sounded more vital, vibrant or at home than he is on stage.
