Last year, Kate McGarrigle, mother of Rufus and Martha Wainwright lost her battle to cancer. To help commemorate the impressive body of work created by her and her sibling Anna, Tell My Sister features the duo’s first two full-length albums in addition to a collection of demo tracks and unreleased recordings made between 1971 and 1974. The distinguished sisterly harmonies sung overtop of whimsically crafted folk songs, both serene and celebratory, help make Tell My Sister the perfect introductory listening experience for those not already familiar with what is arguably one of the most underrated sibling collaborations of the past century. Although they certainly had a fair shake at success while Kate was still living, you can’t help but feel a new wave of success being somewhat inevitable thanks to the well put together package presented here.
