Jim Cuddy – Skyscraper Soul (Warner Music Canada)

If his Blue Rodeo songwriting partner in crime Greg Keelor is Canada’s John Lennon, then it would be fairly safe to say that Jim Cuddy is our Paul McCartney. With his third solo record Skyscraper Soul, Cuddy doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel however this shouldn’t indicate that he has somehow missed the mark. The 14 tracks assembled here, like his output with Blue Rodeo, bring together country, roots and rock in a way that few others in the country can do. The horn section on Regular Days is a nice added touch while trademark ballads such as the title track and Wash Me Down will sound both familiar and yet completely new to listeners.
