When Gorillaz came to life (albeit in cartoon form) in 2001, the concept of a virtual band was a unique one. Featuring Blur’s Damon Albarn, Dan Nakamura among other contributors, the group’s first decade of existence is captured here on The Singles Collection. Mixing a myriad of influences including hip hop, Brit Pop (thanks to Albarn) and more, the talent working behind the cartoon characters was never a guarantee of success. But in hearing the hooks on tracks like Clint Eastwood and Rock The House (both featuring the dynamic talent of Del The Funkee Homospaien), their success shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
