Perhaps better known for ballads than their punk-ish beginnings, Buffalo’s Goo Goo Dolls newest record starts off on a promising note with Sweetest Lie. The anthemic, upbeat track could be seen as a sly nod to the past before the group expectedly explores their softer side on tracks like Notbroken and As I Am. The Dolls show they haven’t completely forgotten how to rock though, mixing solid rock tracks like Now I Hear and Say You’re Free, which help to offset the sweetness of some of those pesky ballads.
