Though some have drawn comparisons between the works of singer-songwriter Cory Branan to the likes of Ryan Adams, Branan doesn’t simply deliver a roots-inspired record with Mutt, his third full-length. The at times gritty but soulful Branan manages to mix the alt.country overtones in his music with the spirit of Bruce Springsteen on The Freefall while a song like Snowman owe more the eccentricities of Tom Waits. Somehow though, Branan manages to impressively straddle the line between those very two disparate artists, which is no easy task in itself, making Mutt worth hearing for yourself.
