It has been seven years since the last studio effort from COC and with a couple of band member changes (drummer Reed Mullin returns while guitarist Pepper Keenan is currently MIA), the group delivers a stellar return-to-form. This self-titled effort, the band’s eighth overall, leans less upon the sludgy / Black Sabbath sound of the group’s previous few efforts although they haven’t completely abandoned that agenda altogether. If anything though, COC’s penchant for punk has been reignited here, something that has largely absent from their past few records but is certainly a welcome thing to hear.
